The labrador is a gundog, more especially a retriever. His job during a hunting party is to find and to bring back the game.

He has a great capacity to mark and can memorize the different places where the game has fallen and to retrieve it. He must be quiet during the hunt. He's a very good swimmer and has a lot of endurance.

There are different kinds of working proof for the retrievers :

• the working-test who is done on dummies
• the field-trial who is made during an hunting party
